since this a fairly new forum, i figured Id post a quick list of common diseases and cures for then for future readers to review. Most of these issues can be avoided with keeping proper water parameters and quarantine of your new fish for at least 4 weeks, dont be afraid to ask your LFS to feed them so you know you are not getting a sick'finicky fish NEVER dose your display tank with a bunch of chemicals (this holds more for reef tanks where as heavy medications will damage corals and inverts)

Scaleless Fish - Any medication used in the treatment of parasites, such as formalin and copper must be used at half the recommended dosage, if you see the fish having problems during such treatments, a water change will be required to reduce the medication levels and another treatment plan should be considered.

For Mandarins - Which are notably slimy fish that are not as susceptible to external parasite infestations as other fish may be. However, they are not immune, and are overly sensitive ...

Last night sometime a fat cat butt landed on the surge protector for my saltwater tank and turned everything, I mean everything off! The only thing the power off didn't affect of course was the vacuum powered overflow box which of course won't stop until it runs out of water or the vacuum is broken. Well, it EVENTUALLY ran out of water due to about a 1/3 of my tank water spilling over the side of my refugium underneath! As you might imagine, my 10 gallon refugium couldn't hold it's volume ...

I have a sinking suspicion that what I bought as Seachem Stability is not what's in the bottle... If anyone has used this product please reply to this post and let me know what it smells like and looks like, my clownfish may be in danger!

My BioCube is being overtaken by Green Hair Algae and I can't seem to do anything about it. I tested phosphates and nitrate, which is apparently the two things that encourage the algae to grow.... Well: my phosphates are testing at about 0 and so are my nitrates, so I did research and apparently the algae can "lock" up all those levels so they test at zero, but are actually quite high.... I don't overfeed, I'm trying to cut back on lighting (without stressing my corals) and still ...

I bought a gorgeous sailfin tang back in February. Being new to the marine aquarium hobby I did not quarantine her. She was the only fish in the tank at the time. She (her name is sailor) came down with Ich fast and furious about a week later. I set up a quarantine tank then and put her in it. I then treated the tank and left her in there for 6 long weeks(which I learned is the life cycle of ich). She was on the brink of death in the quarantine tank. She got red streaks on her face and her fins ...
