Thinking of using a hob refugium on my 75 gallon soon to be reef tank. Just wondering what the up and down sides of using one may bee. I have always used a wet/dry filter so this would be the first time to use one. I was also wondering if anyone has built there own hob refugium and how it may have turned out. So far i like how this one is set up because of the bak pak protein skimmer.

It worked! But back to the rubber cap, I cant find parts for the cascade 1500 only the 1000 and smaller. Does anyone know where or a link to where i can buy one? It is currently ...

I have a 180 gallon sw setup with mostly fish and inverts, but some coral. My question is, how long to run white lights and actinic lighting. Right now i run lights from noon til eight. Actinics come on an hour before and stay on an hour after regular lighting. Am i leaving lights on too long? Any input would be appreciated. I have a power compact setup with double 96 watt 10,000k white lights and double actinic.

A guy from cr a ig s list said that he is willing to sell me 2 400 watt metal halides with a dual ballast for $350. The ballast is a Hamilton but the two bulbs are put in a cheap looking reflector about a foot apart from each other so I don't know if it is worth it. I was kind of hoping for something with glass to protect the bulbs from moisture.

LED Lighting System for Reef or Saltwater Aquarium

I have been seen some LED Lighting System advertise for saltwater and reef aquariums. I was wondering if anybody had any experience with them or what were your thoughts about them. I have read and seen advertisements on them. They say they are as good as halide with little or no heat given off plus a lot less electricity used also gives off the shame shimmering effect. So does anybody here have any thought or knowledge or even built their own LED lighting system?
