This is Casar, as you saw in my main pic lol. About 3.5 years old. I hand feed him, pet him like a cat, he likes to be rubbed right behind his eyes, and I guess he takes joy in splashing me when I do water changes, like literally he will jump out of the water and land RIGHT in front of me, each and every time he does not fail!

Used to have a few Pacu's but they grew mad fast and I re homed him. I had them as scavengers cause Caesar is such a messy eater!

Hey guys!

I got 2 new additions to my tank...a yellow and a blue cichlid...the thing is I have no idea of the species exactly. I was told they were both males, since the brighter colored ones are usually males...is this true?

Anyways, they are getting along with my red eared slider, which I was told no species would really get along with...

They seem to want to hide all the time so that stinks.

Any way to tell what kind they are? They are about 1-2 inches long and skinny.

My mother has a 10 gallon tank with some puffers, and she keeps loosing them. Right now her PH is at 7.8

Salinity: 2.6

Water Temp: 77

What kind of substrate should I use.

PH level?

Any additives (like I use cichlid salt for my Africans)

What kind of angels are great for starters?

I have a few days, I still have to set up the tank, prob. take a filter off of my other tank to get it cycled faster.

Thoughts, ideas?

One of my 'brown' water tanks.

A 40BR w/a large sponge and a AC70. Theres quite a bit of driftwood relative to the tank size. Plants include a variety of Anubias, regular Java Fern and the dwarf Java Fern 'windelov'.

The 8 gymnos have some bloodfin tetras, cory adolphus, a BN and some olive nerite snails for company. So far all are coloring up nicely but not breeding size yet. Not sure if all 8 will be able to stay in the tank or not...only time will tell.

I know better than to walk into Aquatic Critter in Nashville and believe I'm only going to come out with brine shrimp... Sure enough, after thoroughly enjoying over an hour of browsing (WOW! It's better oogling than the state aquarium when it comes to cichlids!) I ended up buying two juvenile pairs of dwarf cichlids... Guess they keep them in with mollies/tetras in order to tempt those of us with planted barb tanks.. LOL

So now I have a pair of German Golds and Butterflies. The store manager ...

When I came over one of the parrot fish had black coloring along the bottom of the mouth/stomach. My boyfriend tells me the coloring started before he left, but since the fish was behaving normally ...

Round 1....our 2 angles laid eggs about 2 months ago in a 20 gal that had 2 other angels in it. Some of the eggs turned white, I freaked out, and separated the parents into another tank. all the eggs turned white. this was the angels and our first time. ok, so we took it as a learning lesson.

Round 2........last wednesday, the angels which are now in a community tank, we noticed eggs on the filter tube. I left it alone this time for mother nature ...

Well after buying a used 75gal and what would seen to be perfect condition turn out to not be. I mean there wasn't a Scratch on the tank but leaked. So after setting it up and finding this out i had to break it down and seal it. Which i am glad i did as i painted the back Navy Blue and Added a little light Fixture inside the stand. Well here is the finished Tank. I am piggy backing the Fluval 405 atm so please excuse the Whispers EX70 in the front wont be there long.^^

This species was mentioned on another topic I posted. Would like to know more. I will preface this with the fact I am setting up another classroom tank for student research projects.

Adult size? Varieties? Other non-cichlid species (non-bottom dwellers) do they mix well with? Cost? Supplier sites? Sex characteristics? Male-to-female ratios?

Thanks!
